Princesses Clarice and her sister Amy are exiled and literally stranded in England. After their tiny country in Europe became politically unstable, their grandmother sent them, along with their older sister, to England, for their safety. However, someone they trusted betrayed them and the sisters separated. Clarice has been able to make a living selling cosmetics, although her methods are a bit unorthodox. Now Clarice and Amy are in Scotland, but things do not go the way she planned.
Robert MacKenzie, Earl of Hepburn, watches the newcomer do a public demonstration of her “miraculous” cosmetics. Taking her for a con artist, he decides that she will be perfect for his purposes. And now Clarice is trapped...
What a wonderfully delightful read “Some Enchanted Evening” is. This book is the first of Christina Dodd’s newest historical series titled The Lost Princesses series and, once more, she brings the reader a very romantic tale with a dash of her charming humor and a bit of suspense. The hero, Robert MacKenzie, is a somewhat brooding hero that ends up falling in love with someone he initially believes to be nothing short of a con artist. Clarice is a strong, intelligent, and resourceful young woman. He manages to survive adversity and to protect her younger sister as well. And of course, she can’t resist the overbearing Robert. The cast of secondary characters is as engaging as the two main ones. I definitely recommend “Some Enchanted Evening”.
