SECRETS by Kristen Heitzmann

Lance Michelli’s beloved grandmother has suffered a severe stroke and she has something she needs Lance to do for her before she dies. Unable to speak, the only thing she can do is send him to visit a convent in Italy. Once there, he is sent back to the States to visit an estate in wine country to try to find out what his grandmother needs to be done.

Rese Barret has bought an abandoned old house for a steal and is now trying to convert it into a thriving bed and breakfast. The job is more formidable than it seems. Vandals have destroyed almost the entire first level of the house. When she finally gets most of the construction finished, Lance shows up and applies for a job as cook. His references are impeccable, but Rese is hesitant to hire him, as she feels a fierce and uncomfortable attraction for him.

Lance’s grandmother remains adamant that something has to be accomplished, but the clues Lance receives are disjointed and nothing makes sense. Add a host of secondary characters and nothing seems to go as planned. Will Lance be able to fulfill his grandmother’s wishes? Will he be able to get past Rese’s tough exterior to discover the real woman hiding behind?

SECRETS is a well-written book guaranteed to keep the reader’s interest. I had to find out what happened next and found myself cheering for Lance to accomplish his quest, in spite of seemingly insurmountable odds. I found it a bit harder to relate to Rese, she didn’t seem as well-developed as Lance and there were times I wondered what he saw in her.

All in all, SECRETS is a book I recommend. Pick it up today for a spine-tingling romantic suspense.
