FBI Agent Jake Ryan is deep undercover posing as prisoner, Adam Duvall. His cellmate, Lyle McEdwin, is a member of the notorious McEdwin family and Adam wants to infiltrate the family to gather evidence that will bring them down. His first stage of infiltration is a staged prison break. Lyle is shot after being confronted by an off-duty cop and he needs medical attention.
Dr. Renata Curtis is working late and alone at her clinic when two men arrive at the door. One of the men is suffering from a bullet wound and needs Renata to provide medical treatment. When she tries to refuse treatment, she finds she doesn’t have a choice, and she must do everything she can to keep Lyle alive or she could die. Although the other man is not wounded, he confuses Renata; she can’t figure out why she’s attracted to him.
When their situation demands that they flee the clinic, Adam forces Renata to go along to keep Lyle alive. Close quarters, fear and adrenaline, intensifies the attraction Renata and Adam already feel. Renata can’t understand why she would be attracted to an escaped felon, but she can’t deny her feelings. Adam wants to keep Renata safe and he worries that the McEdwin’s will kill her once they no longer need her.
Lauren Bach creates interesting and well developed secondary characters. You have the McEdwin clan, who have underworld, and militia connections that provide everything Adam, Lyle and Renata need to get them to the family compound. Then you have Zach Ryan, Adam’s brother, who also has a shady past, but he turns out to be a good guy wearing black.
PURE DYNAMITE contains the just right balance of suspense, romance and sexual tension to keep this reader hooked. I have been a fan of Lauren Bach for many years and was thrilled to be able to read her latest book for review. PURE DYMAMITE simply blew me out of the water. Jake/Adam is a tough-as-nails, alpha male with a gentle side when it comes to Renata. He becomes vulnerable where she’s concerned and that makes him real. In my opinion, he’s one remarkable hero for one gritty heroine. PURE DYNAMITE is a definite recommended read.
