Journalist Alex Powell is attending a conference where fellow journalist Everett Carson is supposed to receive the Journalist of the Year award. Only a few minutes before the program is due to start, Ev calls Alex and asks her to hold the program for a few minutes, he’s running a little late. Alex dutifully informs the powers that be, who give Ev twenty minutes to arrive, and no more. Twenty minutes later, Ev still hasn’t appeared. Alex and her friend, Paul Butler, go up to Ev’s suite to see what is holding him up and discover Ev dead in his bed.
Preliminary reports show that Ev’s death was from poisoning, but the conference is over and the attendees have gone to their homes—scattering suspects from coast-to-coast. Since Alex was Ev’s friend and she knew everyone who was at the conference, the police enlist her help to find Ev’s killer.
Alex convinces Paul to help and the search for the killer will take them on a whirlwind tour of the USA. In the middle of dissed colleagues, dumped girlfriends, disgruntled ex-employees, and the other legion of enemies Ev managed to accumulate, Alex begins to realize that before it’s over, Ev might not be the only one who ends up in a body bag. Which of Ev’s many enemies actually killed him? And why?
PLAIN BROWN WRAPPER is an extremely well-written mystery. I usually solve these long before I reach the end of the book, but in this case, I was kept guessing. Alex is a lovely heroine, gutsy and sarcastic. The descriptions in PLAIN BROWN WRAPPER were outstanding, I was able to envision every place the author described.
Pick up PLAIN BROWN WRAPPER today for a mystery you won’t soon forget. It’s
a page-turner.
