MOBILE BY MOONLIGHT by Merzi Ross

Becca Ross is a coroner in Mobile, Alabama. She is dealing with a string of victims of a serial rapist and murderer. As an empath, the case is growing more difficult with each victim. She has discovered a silver cross dropped into each victim's body, and has frequent flashes of their experience at the hands of the murderer. She is a petite woman with very long blonde hair. Each of the victims is blond and between the ages of eleven and thirteen. All have been brutalized and raped, but there are no clues to be found other than the cross necklaces.

Ian Huntington is an Englishman who appears at one of the crime scenes as a suspect. But victim's time of death exonerates him. Ian has a mysterious way about him, and feels the pull between himself and Becca. He is dangerous and yet Becca has no fear of him. He has been working in secret to avenge the victims of crime, and has an international reputation. Ian is a telepath and learns to communicate with Becca through psychic means. He recognizes that he is falling in love with her, but first they both have to learn how to trust in a world that has shattered them in the past.

Together Becca and Ian make a formidable team. Becca protects Ian from identification by law enforcement without understanding why, only that she must. And Ian protects Becca from her fears and history.

When Becca is kidnapped by the serial killer, it will take their love and their abilities to keep her from becoming the next victim.

Merzi Ross has written an interesting, engaging book. Her use of telepathy and empathy is done nicely, and both Ian and Becca are worth drooling over. The heat they generate is scorching, and left this reviewer wishing for a fan. The only problem I had with the story was the occasional use of homophones – then for than and the reverse. As a stickler for correct word usage, I found it distracting. So, sticklers beware, but all others enjoy. I look forward to reading more from this entertaining new author.
