From the witches of Old Salem in Massachusetts to life in modern times, Bewitching My Love is a story that travels back to unravel a curse made in ancient times, a feat that threatens to alter the course of history or erase the existence of a prominent family.
Fern Abbott is an antique dealer in Salem, Massachusetts. When she discovers the existence of an ancient wardrobe that seems to be whispering only for her ears, she falls under its spell. As a dealer, she becomes aware that it will be coming up for auction. What she doesn’t know is that there is another bidder for this particular antiquity.
Rowen Nichols comes from a wealthy family. As a man who has inherited his money and a birthright spanning 17 generations, it becomes his legacy to alter the course of a curse that threatens ancestors from ever being born. In a bidding war against Fern, his position allows him to easily take possession of the mysterious wardrobe, prepared to carry out his part in the family history.
In a passage through time, Rowen escorts Fern back to ancient Salem where his duty is to see to it that she takes the place of a witch doomed to be hanged or risk the extinction of his lineage. What he doesn’t bargain on is the way he comes to care for her along their trek through their shared history.
I enjoyed the twists and turns as Rowen and Fern defeat their ancestors’ plots and find themselves jumping in and out of time, believing to have resolved the curse only to find they are thrown back into the thick of it. There is sort of a cosmic time loop effect with each paradox brought about by the interference from the future and the help of a good witch. While Rowen’s characterization was fairly consistent through the book, his initial introduction didn’t fit with the personality that unfolds through the rest of the book. I enjoyed the plotting in regards to the curse, particularly at the end of the book as the author drops just enough clues for you to guess, but only just before the answers are revealed at each step along the way.
