This story takes place in the future, but, because the author has amazing visionary insight, the events hit close to current events.
P.R. Rep. Karen Foley is in love with Bryson Lowe – a secret service agent assigned to the President of the United States, Matthew Berger. Karen and President Berger are both strong Christians who will not compromise their faith. No matter the cost. Bryson, however, believes in God but does not have a personal relationship with the Lord.
Bryson Lowe does believe that there is a God what he doesn’t understand is why his girlfriend has to go all fanatical. And, the president? He hadn’t had him pegged as a religious zealot, but clearly when the President is pressed between a prayer and hard place, he always picks the prayer. Even if the prayerful decision means political suicide, Bryson is sure the president would do it. He doesn’t understand that kind of commitment, but it impresses him.
Karen’s faith propels her into the dangerous territory of protecting, or rather, reviving what America has lost in its quest for political correctness. Not only is abortion legal, but through the efforts of a company called Life Quality babies can be deemed not viable so their organs can be given to someone who IS viable. “Life Quality, a place born of need, culmination of a wondrous chain of medical events that led to the curing of several debilitating diseases. Those marvels brought hope to the childless and life to the dying.” (When it sounds too good to be true, it usually is).
Karen takes a PR position with a fledging company called Sacred Child. Sacred Child stands for what is right. Sacred Child's sole mission is to bring back the sanctity of life [back] to the world. As the company expands, it threatens Life Quality’s following and the war is on.
In addition to the battle between Life Quality and Sacred Child, world events spiral out of control. An oil crisis arises, terrorists demand the USA withdraw support of Israel. Only then will USA get their oil. Of course environmentalists have prevented any sort of fuel development on USA soil, and without oil from the east there is little the president can do. In addition Arab nations still hate America and continually plan her demise. No one really knows the evil that propels the hatred towards the USA.
It seems America is sunk. Her soul has been replaced with a feel good religion that requires very little of its followers. Political correctness has wiped out any sort of competition, there is no ‘right,’ ‘wrong,’ ‘truth,’ or ‘deceit,’ resulting in America’s moral compass stuck South. Enemies encroach from the outside while evil dances on the inside of America’s borders.
Karen, Bryson and Matthew are key to America’s survival. But with so much opposition, so much prevailing evil, how can three people overcome for the world?
If you read no other Christian Book this year, you must read A Form Of Godliness. Its setting is futuristic but I felt as if I was reading today’s current events. Anything that happens in the book could happen tonight. In some ways the events are exciting because they point to the time when Christ will come for His faithful. Yet, the events are frightening because the evil things that occur in the book could realistically without much effort, happen in America now.
Author Shane Johnson writes a compelling, moving story. Sanctity of life, cloning, terrorism, nuclear attack, doctrine of political correctness and Christianity are all on the line, and Shane pulls no punches, waters down nothing and lays it all on the line. He leaves nothing to chance, completing each twist and turn with awesome resolutions.
I believe this book will change the way you view world events. Every year I give a book to members of my family who don’t buy Christian fiction, but who will read what I suggest. This year everyone gets a copy of A Form Of Godliness.
I eagerly anticipate more excellence from this enlightened, talented author. A Form Of Godliness gets the Reviewers Choice Award from me. Highly recommended – a MUST read.
