Tracey has
the perfect life, or so she thinks. Her grandmother kicked her out
after she
dropped out of college, so she goes to the one person that has always
been
there for her, her brother. He is a drug dealer that runs the streets
of Atlanta, raking in money to
support his
younger sister, his girlfriend, and his young daughter. Between him and
her
boyfriend, Key, they will more than keep her accustomed to her way of
life. Key
is her brother’s partner dealing drugs. He loves Tracey more than
anything, and
would do anything to keep her happy. Unfortunately, he can’t do
everything for
her, and when he and her brother get arrested, Tracey is left homeless,
jobless, without skills, and without a man. So she begins to do the one
thing
that she is good at, look for a man to take care of her. Her goal in
life is to
have a sugar daddy, someone to keep her looking her best. When will she
wake up
and realize that she has to make her own way?
Michelle
has always worked hard to reach her goals. She has maintained good
grades,
graduated from college, and worked hard to fulfill the dreams that she
has for
her career. The only thing that she has never succeeded at is love. She
has
terrible luck with men; she has a knack for finding the one man that
always
ends up deceiving her and doing her wrong. When will she find a man
that is
deserving of her?
Keisha is a
single mother that is struggling just to get by. Her career in nursing
provides
a steady income for herself and her daughter. She finally achieves her
career
goals, but she surely doesn’t reach her relationship goals. Her
judgment where
picking a man is concerned is seriously impaired. The men that she is
attracted
to are just plain losers. Will she ever get what she deserves in the
love
department?
ON THE
SHORT END OF THE LOVE STICK is a harsh look at dating and love among
three
African American women in Atlanta spanning the nineties to
the current
day. It is an unsettling novel, to say the least, proving that black
women have
bad luck with men and certainly with love. It was extremely difficult
to read
due to many grammar mistakes and editing mistakes. The overall content
was
interesting, yet the mistakes found within the writing made me give the
novel a
more negative review than what it deserved if there had been fewer
mistakes.
