Washington Times Senior White House Correspondent Bill Sammon brings us a riveting play of events in this revealing book.
President George W. Bush is sometimes referred to as cowboy, ‘dumb’, ‘idiot’, daddy’s boy, (personally I see nothing wrong with being a cowboy or daddy’s boy, but that’s another subject, entirely), The Bush haters pick up on any slip and make sure it’s broadcast around the world. For instance, on the eve of his presidency he commented his opponents “misunderestimated me”. The word may be wrong, but the meaning is exactly right.
George W. Bush represents all that is good in America. His Christian faith is strong and he pulls no punches when it comes to discussing his beliefs. Likewise, he is a principled man, not afraid to make tough choices and stick with them. And, because of this moral fiber and strong character people hate him. They hate his religion, they hate his laugh, they hate his wife, anything they can hate about him - they do. Unfortunately they aren’t averse to using stiff arm tactics to make their point. The Bush Haters are on the rise.
In addition to battling Bush Haters, our President is pressed to defend almost every decision he makes/made. When America was attacked on 9/11 it was his strong presence that comforted many. Yet, that seems to be forgotten as the presidential election draws close. Instead liberals, Kerry, and the media search for ways to demean and defame the president. It is disgusting and to read the examples in this book hurts my mind. Why? How?
This book is difficult to read because I can’t understand why things are this way. It’s not reassuring to think that so many facts get omitted, edited, skewed out of context and that so many people buy into anything they hear on television. The truth is often buried under a pile of constructed lies. Mr. Sammon does an excellent job of relaying events (that I somehow missed on the networks news or maybe they were never covered!) and situations that makes me appreciate our president even more.
“I deserve a second term because…I’ve showed the American people I’m capable of handling tough times. The thing about the presidency is you never know what’s going to be around the corner, and you’d better have a president who is capable of making decisions when times do get tough.”
George W. Bush, in conversation with Bill Sammon, 2004
I hope this book gets as much attention as the propaganda film “Fahrenheit 9/11,” did, so people will be enlightened and figure out what is true and what is a lie. Mr. Sammon does not portray the President as perfect, but he does inform us of how the perfectly nice man our president is. I wish everyone could see that. The writing is clear, frank, and honest. The author writes with the skill of an experienced writing keeping our attention and the pages turning.
I highly recommend Misunderestimated to anyone who wants to know the rest of the story.
