Bree Nichols and Search and Rescue dog Samson find the body of a missing town citizen at Lake Superior. When they arrive at the victim’s house, to tell his wife, Samson’s unexpected response sends red-flags to Bree. If Samson used words he’d say, “He was murdered here.” The victim worked for a pharmaceutical company and it is soon evident that may be the reason for his death.
As Bree investigates the murder, her life spins almost out of control. Her long time love is hardly talking to her, and the handsome new fireman is nice, but a love interest? Possibly. But, the biggest revelation is about her father and a sister she never knew she had. In addition comes news that dogs have been disappearing from the area. Worse - Samson could be next. How much more can Bree take? Only God knows. Her love for Samson is strong and when he is in harms’ way she’ll do what it takes to make him safe.
INTO THE DEEP is the perfect climax to the three book series. Each book has its own charm, but I loved this one the most. The sinister dog fighting characters are well crafted and really creepy. And the plot is paced just perfect for suspense/romance/adventure and drama. Of course the faith message is woven throughout seamlessly. And, the romance was just enough to satisfy the heart.
Colleen Coble continues to bring us strong characters in powerful stories that make us cheer. I am sorry to see Bree and Samson’s story end, but look forward to this author’s next venture. I highly recommend INTO THE DEEP.
