Jesse is an editor for a fashion magazine in New York. She's been engaged four times, and never married. In addition, the one who got away, Josh has just sent out wedding invitations to his wedding to Kerri, AKA "the cow" as Jesse calls her. Jesse and Josh dated in high school, were best friends and Jesse expected to marry him. Then "the cow" intervened and their friendship was cut off. It's been six years, but she still longs for Josh.
Because of the invitation her sister mailed her, Jesse decides she has to get to Oklahoma before the wedding to stop Josh from making a huge mistake. She heads out in her car, only to break down with a broken fan belt and flat tire in Tennessee. A handsome tow truck driver, Jimmy Angel, rescues her. He even loans her his car to drive the rest of the way home so she won’t miss the wedding.
Once she makes it home, she has to figure out how to stop Josh’s wedding. Her sister Trish is all for her getting back together with him. Right before the wedding, Jimmy shows up in her car, saying he has to know what happens next.
Libby Cudmore has written 16 installments of this story, and her humor and ability to write a first person story are excellent. The wedding scene is sidesplitting, and the introspection that occurs after is realistic and appropriate.
I really enjoyed reading the installments, and my only complaint about the story is that it ended too abruptly, leaving Jesse and her true love without their climactic happily ever after.
