Cesca has given up on her
dreams
of owning and captaining a space ship, thanks to a crash that left her
with
painful injuries, as a reminder of what could have been. Gone too, was
her
friendly rivalry with fellow salvager, Steele Bascar, or so she
thought. When
he returns to Moon Station Nine, neither can escape the mutual passion
that
smolders between them.
In this short,
scintillating
read, Ms. Damschroder sets a touching vignette of a reunion with two
people who
are kindred spirits and most certainly, unrequited lovers. A short
story
doesn't give much space to paint a broader sense of Cesca and Steele,
but it
did a great job of introducing me to a couple with a lot of potential,
should
there be further exploration of their relationship and the long
competitive nature in their
past.
I would very much like to
know
of their past and what happened between Cesca and Steele that caused
her ship
to crash, what adventures lit the spark that smoldered for so long and
then
rekindled in this story? And more importantly, what adventures will
they face
with the joint ventures in the future—these are tales hinted at, that
at present,
remain untold. Ms. Damschroder
titillates the imagination and curiosity with these hints.
I'd gladly recommend Pirate of the Stars for a quick
escape from the heat of summer. What am
I saying? This is hot enough to send me running for the ice cubes and
lemonade!
