A FAMILY MATTER by Marsha Briscoe

Salina Graves is about to have her life turned upside down. She recently married, Lyman Graves, a much older man who offered her security. Salina receives a letter from her mother, after her death, which says Lyman is the same man who was once in love and rejected by her mother and he’s also the man who ruined her father. The letter also says her mother sent Salina a journal which explains everything and contains evidence of Lyman’s betrayal.

Lyman is involved in a mining accident and is not expected to live. Salina must locate her mother's journal and clear her father's name. The problem is, Lyman hid the journal before his accident.

Enter Paul Titus Graves. Lyman's son. Paul Titus or Mick, as he prefers to be called, arrives at the hospital to see his father. The relationship between Mick and his father is troubled and Mick hasn’t seen his father in years. Mick is surprised when he sees how young Salina is and wonders why such a beautiful and kind woman would marry his father. The attraction between Salina and Mick grows over the weeks that Lyman is in the hospital. They both know their relationship is forbidden because Mick is Salina’s step-son, but that doesn’t change the way they feel about each other.

A FAMILY MATTER is a book that started out good, but got confusing in the middle, and came out good in the end. I got confused, because there was so much going on and parts of the plot seemed to get lost. Also, I didn’t feel the connection between Salina and Mick. Mick used three different names in the book, which was confusing and some of the characters didn’t seem to really have place in the story. The concept for the story was excellent, but, for me, it just never really took off.
