What is human? It is a
question
that will change Brianna O'Shea's life as she knows it. She follows her
conscience and rescues a pair of
aliens that her boss intended to dissect, getting
herself shot and absconded by the rest of those aliens in the process.
What began as a marriage
of
convenience to Captain Alalakan don al' Chardadon, intended to protect
Bri and
Earth's denizens from the depraved experimentation of Dr. Rodak don al'
Bakom,
the sadistic and ambitious president of the Academy of Science's
Council,
evolves into an intensely passionate blend of epic nature.
Bri and Char both grow
and adapt
to one another's mutually alien cultures. They overcome a myriad of
challenges
not only to their relationship, but to Earth, which is now known to the
interstellar Federation.
Ms. Mays has spun not
only a
fine yarn, but a complex and delightfully devious web of intrigue that
woos the
reader's senses and seduces one into the world she's created, as well
as characters
whose virtues and foibles are as diverse as our own. Her antagonist is
as
despicable and loathsome as they come, and I can't help but wonder what
the
future holds for this incredible ensemble cast.
Char's vendetta against
Bakom
almost blinds him to the truth. He loves Bri, and vacillates between
the desire
to protect the woman he has fallen in love with and wanting to topple
the malevolent
ambitions of a madman. Fortunately, he has help in the form of his
lovable
rogue of a cousin and the various folk from the five recognized human
worlds
whom Bri befriended in her quest to help Earth gain recognition.
I found Brianna to be a
charming,
intelligent woman who rises above the ordinary when placed in
extraordinary
circumstances, and confronts them head on with good humor, dignity and
a knack
for tackling the tough issues she faces without sacrificing what she
believes
in. Her relationship with Char and her new family, while complex, is a
vivid
tapestry of stories waiting to be told!
