Two years ago, a vampire
attacked Riordan, only a well-timed
rescue kept him from becoming one himself. Still,
he was left with the superhuman powers
and nearly insatiable hungers of the vampire, which he turned into
hunting
them. It is on his latest hunt that
Riordan meets Roarke, a vampire on a Hemoglobin Twelve Step Program,
who may be
the only person capable of helping him catch his current quarry. If
only Riordan
can maintain his focus through the passion that seems to ignite between
them.
Elizabeth Jewell’s Dark
Callings: Bloodlines is a vastly different
tale of
vampire hunters and vampires. Though not
the first to tackle a lustful attraction between a slayer and a
vampire, Ms.
Jewell takes us deeper into the culture of vampires than the average
writer
does. Even as a male/male romance, Bloodlines is a hot and enticing
read,
showing us two alpha males clashing against each other as they fight
against
their emotions while dealing with the vampire they are hunting. It takes a deft, subtle touch to create
equal, truly male characters and place them in a romance without
feminizing one
or both. Ms. Jewell not only managed
this; she excelled at it. These are real
men, with real emotions, and not a woman in a man’s body.
Dark
Callings: Bloodlines is a wonderful read.
This is one reader who looks forward to more of the Dark
Callings series
to see how Ms. Jewell
continues Riordan and Roarke’s relationship.
