With high
hopes and big dreams of being a successful New York City model, Rachel Austin
left her
hometown of Mirage, Texas behind.
Determined to make it in NYC, Rachel found it
hard to forget her hometown boyfriend, Houston Bookout.
Houston and Rachel had always loved each
other, but when she lost her parents and then her home, she turned down
his
marriage proposal because he was penniless and she wouldn’t live that
way.
Rachel soon
makes a name for herself in NYC and feels like all her dreams are
coming
true…except having Houston by her side. Then when a crazed fan begins stalking and
tormenting her for never noticing him, Rachel fears for her life. Terrified and alone, Rachel starts to
understand what is really important in life. Rachel longs for Houston’s love again, but she
has a long
road ahead to gain back his trust when they meet again…
The old
saying states that, “you never know what you have until it’s gone”. Touchstone
by Dinah McCall proves this saying and so much more.
While not Ms. McCall’s strongest, or my most
favourite of her heroine’s, Rachel is a woman who isn’t sure of what
she
wants. Rachel left Houston behind to seek fortune
and fame and
nearly ended up in the clutches of a madman.
When she fears for her life, she then longed to be
back with Houston and finally realized
what she
needed and what the most important things in life are.
Thank
goodness for Houston. Ms. McCall didn’t
disappoint with
another yummy and strong hero like Houston.
He was caring and at times, I felt he deserved
better than Rachel. Ms. McCall has been a
favourite author of
mine for years, and while I am disappointed with Touchstone
because of Rachel, Ms. McCall can still wrap her
suspenseful tale around a reader and keep them into the story. Delving into the mind of Rachel’s madman was
capturing. He added a lot to this story
and I felt myself wanting to know more and more. Touchstone
touches on many emotions and is another Dinah McCall tale to add to a
reader’s
collection to complete their McCall library.
