Olivia Montgomery is completely at home on camera and off. As a reporter for a popular entertainment show, she is wacky and klutzy, endearing herself to millions of viewers. But she’s a failure at relationships. Her last three boyfriends had all cheated on her. And someone tried to kill her.
When Olivia is assigned a stint to cover fitness guru, Tyson Bailey, she balks. Olivia doesn’t exercise. She doesn’t want to have anything to do with it! She loves junk food and doesn’t want to eat healthy. But her boss insists and soon Olivia finds herself in the Carolinas living in Tyson’s home.
Tyson is happy with his life. His fitness book is a phenomenal success. Thousands of people lose weight and keep it off with his nutrition and exercise program. He doesn’t have time for a romance. Not even with cute and zany Olivia. In spite of his best intentions, Tyson finds it difficult to stay focused around her.
As the romance heats up, Olivia’s nightmare comes back to haunt her. It starts with a simple e-mail. Then a dozen roses are delivered to her door. The pattern mimics the previous attempt at her life. Who is threatening Olivia’s life and why? Will she discover in time to save her life? Is there any hope for Tyson and Olivia to find happiness?
THE WAITING is an adorable story with a unique twist. I don’t think I’ve read a book with this storyline before. Olivia is an endearing character who quickly tugs at your heartstrings. Tyson is a larger-than-life hero--the stuff of daydreams. I found myself interested in how they interacted and formed a friendship and I hoped things would work out for Olivia and Tyson.
There are some punctuation errors and words left out early on in THE WAITING, but the story quickly pulled me in, so I didn’t notice if there were any more mistakes or not. I found some things a little contrived—for instance, someone with Olivia’s past would look around more in a dark parking lot, making it difficult for someone to sneak up behind her—but she didn’t pay much attention to her surroundings.
All in all, THE WAITING is a good read. The story is well told and keeps a quick pace. Readers will be anxious to find out what happens next.
