Niccola
Ferris, a secretary at the British Embassy in Athens, is an adventurous soul. Though her beauty is a sight to behold, she
also loves vigorous sports like hiking.
During her vacation on the exotic
Island of Crete, Niccola’s life is
forever
altered. When she meets two other
hikers, Mark, who has been shot and his guide Lambis, she is unsure of
what she
has stumbled upon. Then she hears their
tale of violence and revenge.
Niccola
tends to Mark and Lambis’ wounds and vows to help Mark find his
brother, Colin,
who was kidnapped by the men who shot him.
In a tale of greed, betrayal, violence and danger,
Niccola, with the
help of Mark, Lambis and her cousin Frances; set out to find Colin and
make it
off the island alive.
Originally
published decades ago in1962, Mary Stewart’s The
Moonspinners can be listed as a classic, first for its
age and secondly for the captivating and excitement of this romantic
suspense
story.
Niccola is
a woman who wastes no time with “what-ifs”.
She believes in the greater good and will jump right
into the fray to
help her fellow man. The suspense and
intrigued, especially the feel and depictions of the surroundings, is
poignantly told in this story, and build with each page read. Ms. Stewart is an author who can draw her
reader and hook us until the dramatic end.
Thankfully The
Moonspinners was reissued, as
I missed it in passing years. It now
resides in its own spot on my keeper shelf. I plan to enjoy it many
times over.
(Note:
apparently this book was also made into a movie. I
missed that too, but am very interested in
finding a copy to see if the movie did the book justice!)
