The second story in the anthology, HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS, is also a delight. When Vincent Everett, Baron of Windsmoor, decides to enact his revenge on George Ascot, he does it in no small measure. After receiving a letter from his younger brother – which he believes has just ended his life by his own hand – detailing his failure in his newest business venture and stating that the cause of it was cut-throat tactics performed by Ascot, Vincent knows that he cannot let the matter drop. He and his brother had never been close, but still, Vincent feels that he owes his brother this one last effort. He must defend the family name.
Vincent’s plans to ruin the Ascot family are going along quite smoothly, until the day comes for him to evict George Ascot’s family from their home. Since George has been gone, sailing the seas for his shipping company, it has been fairly easy for Vincent to proceed with his revenge. But when he comes face-to-face with lovely Larissa Ascot, his plans start to change. No longer will he be happy with just ruining George Ascot, he decides his revenge would taste even sweeter if he could seduce Larissa as well. After all, George had ruined his brother’s life, so why shouldn’t Vincent ruin Larissa?
As usual, Johanna Lindsey has used her special gift to create a wonderful, warm romance. THE HOLIDAY PRESENT is the perfect book to curl up with for a nice cozy read. I have always admired the quick wit that peppers the pages of Johanna Lindsey’s novels, and this anthology is no exception. Her light, humorous style is sure to delight and entertain readers everywhere.
