Special,
unique, gifted,
and different. Whispered and revered as the golden child, Amber Lily is
the
only child born between vampire and human. She is seen as so many
things but
all she longs to know is what she is. Frank Stiles kidnapping her years
earlier
has forever changed her. Everyone around her sees her as different and
all
agree she is to be protected and sheltered. Fighting to break free of
the
restriction of being the Golden Child, Amber carves a life out for
herself.
After news of the failing health of a friend Amber heads to his side,
but
someone is watching her. Edge is a vampire whose attitude compels her
to break
through his barrier in search of the man beneath. Amber
knows Edge is after something but she
decided to see where he would lead her.
Edge is a
loner. He lives
only to get vengeance on the man who killed his friend, Stiles. Knowing
the
history between Stiles and of the one called the Golden Child, Amber
Lily, he
knows she is the perfect way to get the vengeance he seeks. What he
never
expected was for her to see past his attitude and into the man who is
longing
for a place to call home. Realizing he under estimated her, Edge must
decide if
he will disappear as he usually does or stand and fight for the one
person who
actually sees him.
Will these
two fighters
finally get what they both desire? Will Amber Lily figure out who she
is? Can
Edge put aside his need for vengeance long enough to see what is right
in front
of him?
Edge of
Twilight
is the long awaited story by Maggie Shayne about Amber Lily, the Golden
Child
born of vampire and human, and Edge, the loner vampire. Amber Lily
seems as
delicate as her name until the health of her friend and savior Will,
shows you
the depth of her character. Amber will
do anything to help her friend, even hunt up the man responsible for
the pain
of her family and friends, Frank Stiles. Amber's character lives up to
all the
expectations you have. She is delicate but not fragile. Her strength is
only
surpassed by her huge heart and love of her family. Amber is not a
woman to be
underestimated as Edge soon finds out.
Edge is as
his name
depicts...moody, prickly and also a loner. His bad boy persona draws
you in and
makes you want to get beneath his tough shell to the man you can feel
that is
underneath. Using Amber to find Stiles was his plan, at least until he
actually
meets her and then lust and emotions he refused to feel since the
brutal
killings of his friend’s surface. Watching Edge try to figure Amber out
was a
joy to read. I laughed out loud as he realized she may seem like a
pushover but
she is far from it.
Ms. Shayne
brings us back
into the world of Twilight and the familiar faces of past characters,
Rhina,
Sarfina, Will, Jameson and Tamara, while bringing in some new ones. The
sense
of family and loyalty are there and for a man like Edge, who is used to
being
alone, it is hard to accept. Amber refuses to let him go and brings him
into
her world of family and love. The final acceptance of Edge into the
family was
touching, poignant and moving.
This novel
lived up to the
wait, however, the final meeting of Amber and Stiles was not as intense
as I
expected it to be. Also when Edge finally got his vengeance, it lacked
the
emotional intensity that I had expected.
I would
recommend this as
a read for anyone who loves paranormal especially vampires. Ms.
Shayne's Twilight
novels can be read as stand alone, but to get the feeling of the
history for
the series, it is better to read the rest in the order they were
written.
