Different Blood: the
Vampire as Alien is a somewhat dry, yet
very
educational study of the vampire mythos as it has developed from a
somewhat
obscure legend to a common character in many books.
Ms. Carter has taken a more academic approach
to the study of vampires, treating them as aliens, not folkloric
characters.
With many footnotes and
references
to somewhat obscure books (at least some this reviewer had never heard
of), Different Blood is a wonderful
reference, especially for the academic world. It
is not a one sitting book, but more a read
some, rest and absorb, then read some more. Still,
it does have plenty of interesting
information within it. It will find
space on my reference shelf.
