Max Starr
is at it again…she’s after a murderer who she saw kill phone sex
operator, Bethany Spring.
Of course Max won’t sit idly by and let a murderer
go free, and the
first person she calls is Detective DeWitt Quentin Long to aid her in
her
quest. Having had visions before and
having worked with him before, Max and Witt don’t mince words or
actions. Max is relentless to find the
murderer who
killed this young woman, who now lives within Max as she seeks justice
for
her. Max decides to have any phone calls
from clients directed to her home, to try and draw out the murderer
whose voice
she heard in her vision. With her deceased
husband Cameron still integral in her life, as a ghostly figure, Witt’s
Dodge
Ram and his sexy smile and charm tempting her to bare her heart and
soul and
her worst enemy lingering in the shadows, Max struggles to control her
life. Will she finally let the past go,
set Cameron free and give into Witt?
Will Max stop the murderer from striking again?
Detective
Witt Long is nearly at his limit with Max Starr. The
woman infuriates him, makes his pulse
pound and his blood boil. Witt takes Max
to meet his mother, knowing that she is scared to death of beginning
any kind
of relationship with him, but it’s already too late.
Witt is in deep with his feelings for Max,
and wants a forever with her. But Max is
a hard woman to crack, to understand and show his true feelings to. Witt tries to help Max find a murderer, all
the while hoping that he can break through her walls to the real woman
beneath.
The
desperately awaited sequel to the Max series by JB Skully is finally
here!! Desperate to the Max
is priceless, entertaining and
exhilarating. From the beginning, picking up where book 2 ended – with
the date
of Max meeting Witt’s Mom – visions of Witt washing plastic flowers one
by one
dancing in my head, turkey dinners being totally off kilter than we, or
Max
were expecting to images of Witt and Max steaming up the windows of his
red
Dodge Ram…I may never be the same again!!
JB Skully
delights this reader once again with the third book featuring Max Starr
and her
visions of murder, mayhem and danger in Desperate
to the Max. Every book of this
series, I have anticipated like none other and it was the same process
as
always; read it all in one sitting and read it all over again, simply
because I
can’t get enough of Witt and Max.
Finally, after so much sexual tension and caring,
they make love and it
was with a silly grin and tears in my eyes that I read their first time
together. It was hot, steamy, life
changing for both of them and beautiful too.
I couldn’t have been happier myself with the moment
JB Skully had it
happen or that Witt and Max finally ended up where they were destined,
and
needed to be, in one another’s arms!
For me, a
reader who has been with this series since the first book, I see so
much growth
in Max, more understanding, her trying to get over Cameron’s death and
the
horrid rape and beating she endured afterwards.
I always connect with Max, pray she will open
herself up again to love,
to Witt, but I also pray that her heart is forever sheltered from ever
knowing
pain again. She has already endured so
much loss and pain, I can’t help hope, though unrealistically, for her
to never
know pain again. Witt will forever
protect her I know, but still, I want to shelter Max too.
Both Max and Witt harbour terrible guilt over
their pasts and it’s heart-wrenching to watch two caring and strong
characters
struggle through it all. They certainly
do not make things easy for one another.
Desperate to the Max unfolds with more
insight into Max,
Witt and Bud Traynor – Max’s worst enemy, and adds a few pieces to what
happened that tragic day two years ago when Cameron Starr was killed.
This
whole series has been an amazing and powerful one.
With each book JB Skully’s writing talents to
draw her reader in, grow along with Max opening her heart and her
growth as a
woman. The previous two books captivated
me; Desperate to the Max was
even better and simply stunned me with the depth of the characters, the
suspense and the realism of pain, loss and love. One
thing that I appreciate from JB Skully is
that with this series, she hasn’t rushed Max’s healing. Max is a
heroine who can’t
handle being pushed or prodded too much.
Ms. Skully pens a strong heroine in Max, but there
is much healing and
vulnerability going on beneath the surface.
Ms. Skully handles Max with strength and
understanding of what she needs
and the time it will take for Max to realize the woman she really is,
and can
be. Max is a hell of a survivor who
really speaks to a reader.
All this
being said, I can’t help but award JB Skully and Max, again with the
Road to
Romance Reviewer’s Choice Award. The
writing and the story is always better than the last tale. I cannot get
enough
of Max, Witt, Cameron and even the evil Bud Traynor. We
met Witt’s mother, Ladybird in this tale
and she added much contention for Max, but a lot of humour for the
reader. I am desperately waiting on pins
and needles
to see what happens next in the lives of Max Starr and DeWitt Quentin
Long. The next book in this series can’t
come soon enough for me!
