In true frank, humorous manner we’re used to from Joyce Meyer, Seven Things That Steal Your Joy, is a helpful resource for today’s challenging lifestyles. In the Bible we’re told to live with joy, no matter what the circumstance – but many of us struggle with the how-to? This book is one way to discover the way.
The seven things referred to are not elusive or unusual, they are emotions and mannerisms we experience every day, but she doesn’t leave us with just the feeling of shame or failure, she gives us, instead the means to combat it. For each ‘joy stealer’ Meyer’s gives us a ‘joy keeper’. By the end of the book the reader is well versed in why joy has been missing from their lives, how to shake free from that stealer, and cling to the keeper.
She includes lessons from scriptures and includes the two things believers struggle with in their lifestyle – grace or works. Do we live our Christian life by grace and faith in the Lord who saved us, or do we show our faith by the amount of work we do for Him? Do we seek Him when we plan the work or do we make our own plans and ask Him to bless them?
When the reader is finished, there is a sense of relief. Joy is available and it is not unattainable.
Seven Things That Steal Your Joy – Overcoming The Obstacles to Your Happiness is a refreshing book. I recommend it to anyone who’s interested in obtaining the joyful life described in the Bible, or for people like me, who struggle with the challenges of everyday life and need a resource for overcoming those obstacles to live life victoriously and joyfully as He intended.
