Historical Romance

MOON IN THE WATER by Elizabeth Grayson

Growing up in a home with an abusive stepbrother has left Ann Rossiter frightened, not only for her life but the life of her unborn child. Ann’s stepfather plans for Ann to marry one of his riverboat pilots, but Ann’s plans don’t include marriage. When Ann is forced to marry Chase Hardesty, she decides to make the most of her situation and get away from the men who have controlled and traumatized her.

Chase Hardesty is an orphan who was lucky enough to be rescued and raised by wonderful parents. He’s been working on a riverboat since the age of 13 and his dream is to captain his own boat. Commodore John Rossiter offers him his dream with one condition; Chase must marry his pregnant stepdaughter. At first Chase refuses, but after seeing the new boat and being goaded by Booth Rossiter, John’s obnoxious son, Chase graciously accepts the offer and marries Ann. Chase doesn’t expect his new wife to be so strong-minded, but when Ann shows up as they’re ready to sail and announces she’s going too and will live on board the boat, he realizes he definitely underestimated this woman.

Life on the riverboat is a big change for Ann, but she adjusts quickly and learns to love the river life. She bonds with Chase’s enormous family, Frenchy, the cook, Goose, the deck/cargo supervisor, and lots of other colorful characters that give their own special gift to MOON IN THE WATER. Ann’s problem is adjusting to the bond that’s forming with her husband. She doesn’t know how to handle the attraction or her growing feelings for him. In Chase, Ann sees a man she trusts, respects and maybe even loves and she’s never had that before. Can Chase show her how to let go of the hurt and fear and truly trust and love for the first time in her life? Will her past catch up with them and ruin what they’ve worked so hard to build?

Elizabeth Grayson has written another beautiful love story that has this reader absolutely enchanted. Her colorful descriptions of the river, scenery, and life on the riverboat, draw the reader right into the book. The story is incredibly romantic and the scenes between the hero and heroine are the most tender I’ve ever read. Chase Hardesty is without a doubt my hero for life…he captured my heart. He was perfect for Ann, who has so much to overcome before she can return the love her husband gives so freely. Just when you think everything’s perfect, Ms. Grayson twists the plot and takes you in a whole new direction.

MOON IN THE WATER is an outstanding story. Its full characters you cherish, villains you hate and a hero and heroine you simply can’t get enough of. The story never slows down and Ms. Grayson saves the best for last; the ending definitely leaves you satisfied.
