GYPSY LOVE by Josey Holliday

As the Community Outreach Director of Columbia Basin College, Jackie Noble knew all the interesting and important people in the Tri-City area. Her life consisted of attending university receptions, meeting influential people, and acting as the community liaison for the college. She had many friends and a fantastic job, but it wasn’t enough. Something was missing in Jackie’s life, which was why she had applied for the administrative assistant job at Liberty Development, LTD. She needed a change.

Alex Miraca, owner of Liberty Development, needed an administrative assistant and with all her connections, Jackie was the perfect candidate. His latest development, Green Apple Hills in Kennewick, was getting a lot of opposition from the local planning committee and some of the residents of the upper middle-class suburb known as Meadow View. With Jackie on board, Liberty Development had a fighting chance of moving forward on the Green Apple Hills project.

Not only does Jackie form an on fire team to attack the Green Apple problems, but sparks fly whenever she and Alex are together. Despite the obvious heat between them, Jackie has doubts because of Alex’s past history of being a womanizer. Just as things start to head in the right direction for Liberty, a series of mail bombs threaten to derail the project and Liberty as well. Who’s behind the recent rash of bombings and on site accidents at Green Apple Hills? Can Jackie believe Alex’s profession of love or is she just another notch in his bedpost.

While the thought of having a gypsy lover is romantic and conjures up visions of passionate nights, GYPSY LOVE is anything but romantic. The story is hard to follow and grammatically simple. For a contemporary novel, Ms. Holliday’s characters were not very believable as real people and much of the dialog seemed forced and robotic at times. The gypsy connection was a mystery through much of the book as well.
Overall it was a disappointing read.
