With
her younger sisters in tow, Nicola Gordon travels to England from India to a marriage that she
doesn’t want. Drew Barlow has no desire
for marriage at all, but has no choice if he wants to save his estate. When they finally meet, they clash and ignite
an attraction neither can truly resist.
Gemstones is a somewhat typical
historical with
the usual twists of plot, misunderstandings and reckless young
relatives clash
with the usual villain out to get the heroine.
Still, Nicola is no fainting Miss, but an educated
woman. This alone is a refreshing change
from the
standard fare. I found the story
interesting, if a bit predictable, but would be interested in seeing
related
novels about Nicola’s sisters, especially young Margaret, and Drew’s
friends.
