It’s May 1977 and four best friends, Dani Harcourt, Wade Stevens, Ken Moody and JeriAnn Murphy, are graduating from high school. They have their whole lives ahead of them; college, careers, marriage and families. Then on Graduation night, decisions are made that will effect their lives for the next twenty years. Other decisions made that fateful night 20 years ago and secrets are coming back to haunt the foursome in ways they never dreamed.
BEST OF ALL is one of those books that I couldn’t get out of my head; it stayed with me for days. I kept reliving the book in my head and I plan to reread it the first chance I get. It touched my heart as did all of the characters. I loved all four of the major characters; they’re real and vulnerable and the story is so full of emotion.
Janet Mills is one author I’m adding to my automatic read list. Her ability to tell a story like this one and keep the reader engrossed is absolute brilliance. Sometimes younger characters can tend to be really juvenile, but Ms. Mills wrote them so believable and did not make them appear petty or childish. They handled the problems they encountered like real people would. There was so much love and caring between the foursome and that made the story all the more believable.
I couldn’t put this book down and when I had to take a break, I couldn’t quit thinking about what had happened or what might happen. BEST OF ALL is the kind of book I love to read. I highly recommend BEST OF ALL, it’s an emotional tale you will definitely want to add to your reading list.
