ALL I EVER WANTED by Erin Moore

Ten years after he left town, Craig is called back by his ex-fiancée, who tells him his mother is dying.  Craig never thought he would hear from or see Amber again, but she is at his mother, Ruth’s bedside constantly as her life slowly ends.  Craig was betrayed by Amber years ago just before their wedding day.  Never having got over the hurt and anger, Craig finds it difficult to be back in town, seeing Amber everyday while saying good-bye to his mother.  But when Craig learns the truth about what really happened that day ten years ago, the last day he ever saw Amber, he finds that his was not the only pain of the events that took place.  Craig vows to keep Amber safe as a madman stalks her and wishes her dead.  Even with ten years apart, Craig discovers that his love for Amber never died.

Amber never thought she would have to face Craig again.  He left her ten years ago and when she really needed him, when her life hung in the balance, he wasn’t there for her.  Those days ten years ago after she was brutally raped and hospitalized, were the worst of her life.  Amber never thought she would feel the need to live again.  But Craig’s mother, Ruth, was like a second mother to her and pulled her through and showed her life was indeed worth living.  But facing Craig again, day after day, is nearly more than Amber can take.  When the man who raped her years ago escapes from prison and eludes the police, Amber realizes that she can trust Craig, as he proves that he is there for her no matter what.  But can the hurt of the past be forgotten in mere days?

Can Amber and Craig find all they ever wanted in each others arms again?  Will Brian be caught before it is too late?

All I Ever Wanted by Erin Moore is a good, fast paced tale that introduces the reader to some wonderful and strong characters.  Amber was a woman who had been through so very much in her life, had many obstacles and inner peace to deal with, and she rose above everything and became a successful businesswoman who still had dreams for the future of marriage and children. She was heroine who fluctuated at times, seeming to be the victim and other times proving she is a survivor. Craig returning home after ten years of separation couldn’t deny the feelings they still had for one another though.  They had much to get through, talks to have, but the undeniable and existing love between them could not be overlooked.  Ms. Moore pens great romance.

The only real flaws I found while reading All I Ever Wanted was the miscellaneous information we were given between the dialogues early on.  I felt that this “background” information, or the thoughts running through both Craig and Ambers heads when they weren’t really speaking to one another, became tedious and too much misinformation that the story didn’t need.  Also, the only real question I had was how Brian, the rapist who was after Amber, eluded the police.  There was no real indication of where the man was hiding that the police couldn’t find him.  His twisted ways and the taunts he put Amber through made the story all the more suspenseful, yet in the back of my mind I was still questioning what Brian was up to when we were dealing with the relationship between the main characters.  While we knew that it was Brian after Amber, I think I would have liked to see some of his thoughts within the story…maybe got into his head a bit to really get a ‘feel’ for him which would then, in turn, make the suspense all the more fearful and startling.

Having said that though, All I Ever Wanted is still a very good read.  I would recommend it to readers who want to try someone new and are looking for a dash of suspense in their romances.  Erin Moore shows great talent and I hope to read more from her again.
