Who better to get advice from than a father of SIX daughters and four sons? Author Michael Farris generously shares wisdom through the pages of this slim hard-cover volume.
From the day a daughter is born the parents are entrusted to raise her lovingly, carefully and with guidance to become a godly woman and a contributing member of society. While mom usually deal with the day in and out events of life, dad sometimes stands on the outside looking in, not quite sure what to do with this incredible bundle of curls and giggles who has somehow made him weak in the knee and weepy.
Dad’s need to read this book.
You can tell what kind of useful information a ‘how-to’ book will give by its Contents page. Here’s the contents page from, What a Daughter Needs from Her Dad:
1. Stumbling…or Building. What Kind of Block are You?
2. Building Blocks of Love
3. Solving the Mystery of Spiritual Leadership
4. Save Your Heart For Me
5. Guiding Your Daughter Toward Positive Friendships.
6. Heels and Hose…and Beyond
7. Solving the Feminist Paradox.
8. Responsible Young Women
9. Raising Daughters for the Future or Our Nation.
10. The Love Continues: Your Married Daughter.
11. An Easy “To Do List.”
So, in this 175 page book we glean information for all aspects of our daughters’ lives. Careful self evaluation enhanced by scripture and thought/discussion questions, each chapter is a plethora of information. And, it’s all conveyed in a simple, straightforward manner, no holds barred.
It is clear the author has a keen insight into the lives of his daughters and the reader gets the distinct impression his only desire is to share that information so other dads and daughters can experience the joy that comes from such a healthy relationship. How many times have you heard a dad say he wanted a do-over and if he had a do-over he’d not spend so much time at work, he wouldn’t throw money at everything in hopes it would fix whatever ailed whoever at the time, he’d understand the need for time together even if his daughter is young, belligerent, scared, haughty, or even, happily married. Regret is a hard thing.
This book is of course an excellent read for any man, even if they haven’t daughters yet. (I’d suggest any man who has a relationship with young women: cousin, Uncle, brother, youth leaders – while not having the unique position a father has, will benefit from reading the book).
The refreshing thing about What a Daughter Needs from Her Dad is Mr. Farris’s practical advice – we’re not hearing the same old thing about dad-daughter struggles easily solved, instead we’re given practical, common sense, Bible based remedies to those struggles.
I highly recommend What a Daughter Needs from Her Dad – HOW A MAN PREPARES HIS DAUGHTER FOR LIFE. (HINT: It will make a great Father’s Day present).
