Historical romance, paranormal, mystery, adventure

THE WARRIOR by Claire Delacroix

THE WARRIOR is set at Inverfyre, Scotland, in the early 1400s and is about the odd relationship of a powerful warrior, the Hawk, with the courageous Lady Aileen of Abernye.  They both fight against the odds in order to solve the mystery that bonds them together.  This historical novel is also a great romance filled with mystery, paranormal elements and a lot of adventure.

Michael, the Hawk of Inverfyre, is determined to reclaim his family’s lands from the MacLarens occupation.  But on the way some magic possesses his mind and falls in love with Aileen, the daughter of the Laird of Abernye. His strange visions lead him to marry Aileen hurriedly and that is when real trouble begins.

Aileen of Abernye is a bold young woman who resists the Hawk’s charms despite her inner desire to let herself love him.  She will not submit to him easily, and proves to be a difficult case for the tough warrior.  She keeps wondering why he has married her and tries to find a satisfying answer to her numerous questions, but to no avail.

The story begins in 1390 at Inverfyre, Scotland.  Young Michael encounters a witch and learns about the secret of a curse set upon his ancestor, Magnus.  From that day on Michael has visions of the past, of the life of Magnus and his eternal love mistress who died because of him.  Years later Michael meets Aileen, whose visions coincide with his, and falls in love with her.  But is it true love or do they actually live the past lives of Magnus and his mistress?  How can they tell magic from real?  Aileen is very confused and however attracted she is to the Hawk, she keeps looking for a logical answer to the mystery that surrounds their relationship.  The Hawk kidnaps Aileen and leads her to his own kingdom, but is she going to be safe there?  What will happen to them when magic is gone?  Or are they both sorcerers?

THE WARRIOR  is a historical romance that is very enjoyable to read.  The plot is complex and the description rich in imagery.  The author uses language that is quite suitable to that era, yet very descriptive and vivid that can satisfy even the most demanding reader. The plot is also complex.  There is a wide range of emotions in the story: Love, hatred, vengeance, awe, friendship, loyalty, justice and a lot more.

The story is a well-built tale that includes paranormal elements such as visions of past lives and witchcraft.  It is well-structured and truthful, and sustains the reader’s attention to the very end.  It is a highly absorbing novel that can bring out strong emotions, and positive thinking at the end of the story.  It caters to all lovers of historical romance, mystery and  adventure, and it is worth reading it.
