TANGLED UP IN DAYDREAMS by Rebecca Bloom

All the love in the world cannot cure addiction. This is the painful lesson that Molly Stern learns firsthand. When Molly meets Liam McGuire, she has immediate feelings of passion and desire she’s never experienced with any other man. Quite possibly, love at first sight. However, Liam’s drug addictions and other risky behavior create a rocky situation for him and Molly.

The book jumps ahead two years; both Molly and Liam are in crisis. Liam’s heath and life are up in the air, and Molly flees back home to the loving arms of support of her family. This is a time of deep thinking, thus the many, many daydreams. Molly replays certain events of her life, providing the reader with an in-depth view of Molly, her way of thinking, her goals and her needs. We don’t hear from Liam too much from this point on, except when a particular daydream includes him in a scene from time to time.

The concept of TANGLED UP IN DAYDREAMS is very interesting. The reader is given a rather introspective look at Molly’s life, family and emotions. Also explored are the reasons Molly fell in love with Liam and her very difficult decision on whether to take him back after yet another broken promise.

However, there are aspects of this book that make it difficult to read. The narration is done in a rather clinical, detached fashion, causing me to feel disconnected at times. I also would have liked to see an epilogue once the book concluded. I was unable to be convinced that Liam and Molly had worked out their issues and, if even only a few sentences, a more convincing ending could have been more satisfying.

Despite these issues, TANGLED UP IN DAYDREAMS is a page-turner. I was very interested in Molly’s feelings and motivations. The title fits the book and the daydreams did captivate me. I hope to read another book by Ms. Bloom, as the author holds promise as a good storyteller.
