RUNNING MATE by Jaci Burton

Kelsey Harper plans to get her story before the night ends.  No one has ever been able to get close to Senator Jason Devlin, and she is determined to be the first.  Not quite prepared for Jason to take her in his arms, Kelsey is surprised when he does just that, and she allows it to happen!  One night isn't enough for either of them and Kelsey agrees to spend the weekend with Jason away from the media and family.  But what happens at the end of the weekend when it's time for her and Jason to part ways?  What will she put in her story and how will she react when she learns what he really is?

Senator Jason Devlin will do whatever it takes to protect his career and his family, but finding the woman who he wants to spend the rest of his life mated to, proves to be almost more than he can handle when he meets Kelsey Harper.  A case of mistaken identity brings Kelsey into his life, but how long can they last? He is a man with a whole pack of secrets that could ruin him and put his family in danger.  Can he keep his secrets safe, or will his hard-nosed reporter tell all?

Jaci Burton's latest tale, Running Mate really brings out the animalistic emotions in the reader.  This is a bit different than anything this author has done before, mainly due to the length of the story, but her writing still hooks the reader immediately.  Jason is one of the sexiest Alpha males that I have had the pleasure to read.  He doesn't have any evil within his body and certainly not his heart.  He is genuine and I truly liked that about him.  Yes, he is a Senator and keeps his true identity a secret, but that is just a part of the attraction to him.  Though we know what he is, there is still a mystery about him waiting to be discovered and what a journey it is uncovering it all!

Running Mate is a journey of self-discovery and emotional awakenings for both the characters.  They are together with no real expectations, no ulterior motives, just simply...being.  It's breathtaking, energized, fast-paced and so very stimulating!!  It is also intriguing and leaves the reader wondering throughout if Kelsey will really 'tell all' about Jason.  I felt her confusion, her rejection and all the other emotions Kelsey felt when she learned the full truth about her lover.  As a quickie, it was wonderful, no where near long enough, but I really got a feel for the characters, insight into the Devlin Dynasty and am definitely anticipating more.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Senator Jason Devlin is a man with a dangerous secret, one that could destroy his career and his family.  He guards his secret closely.  No one is allowed to penetrate his intimate circle.  When a case of mistaken identity lands reporter Kelsey Harper in his bed, he has to decide between keeping his secret or the woman who speaks to his heart.
Once again Ms. Burton has created an intensely erotic story that heats the reader’s blood.  Despite its short length, Running Mate is a beautiful tale of love in spite of the odds.  It’s a page turner that makes you wish it was longer; however, I’m certain that the later books in the Devlin Dynasty series will more than make of for the brevity of the first.  I look forward to revisiting these werewolves, especially Jason’s assistant, Brandon.
