Cydney Parrish had
always been the responsible and ordinary one in a family filled with the
rich, the famous and the beautiful. With none of the glamour or
ruthlessness characteristic of her family, Cydney does all the hard work
behind the scenes including bringing up her beautiful ditzy niece Bebe
while leaving behind her own dreams of one day becoming an mystery
writer. Trouble comes into Cydney’s life in the form of wholesale
marriage mania. First Bebe gets engaged to an equally clueless and rich
young man Aldo, and later on Cydney’s sister and mother both announce
their own marriage plans.
Determined to
prevent Aldo from making a foolish marriage, his uncle/guardian, the
famous mystery writer Angus Monroe comes storming into town. In the
process he shocks and mortifies Cydney who’s long had a crush on him.
One broken nose, twisted ankle and continued accident-prone ways later,
Angus feels it prudent to invite Bebe and her entire family to come have
the nuptials at him remote mountain home where he can plot and scheme to
break up the young couple to his heart’s content. To further complicate
things, Gus and Cydney struggle to maintain civility and control their
mutual lust, even as wedding preparations drive everybody crazy.
Lynn Michaels’ book
is a riotous bundle of rip-roaring fun and laughter. Humor drips from
practically every witty sentence, even as comical situations abound.
Amid all the hilarity and tears of laughter, the author also skillfully
blends in detailed characterizations and slips in some rather emotional
scenes. Every character has a hidden facet, every relationship is
complicated and the ongoing secretive shenanigans in the palatial
mountain retreat under terrible winter conditions, are sure to send the
readers into gales of laughter. Romance, lust and passion, along with a
surprising bit of suspense, render this book an unpredictable and
enjoyable read. “Mother of the Bride” is a book to lighten up even the
dreariest day and in general, make its readers happy. Who needs more?
