Orphaned as a teen,
Liberty Jones takes on the responsibility of her younger sister with
panache and style. Refusing to allow the state to raise the sister who
is more like a daughter to her, Liberty sets out to prove that she’s fit
to parent her young sister, which requires her to grow up faster than
she ever expected. Along the way, she carries a torch for Hardy Cates,
who makes it clear that though there’s chemistry between the two of
them, he has ambitions of his own that don’t include sticking around
Welcome, Texas. Hardy has goals in life that will never be fulfilled if
he stays in Welcome.
Heartbroken by the love of her life, Liberty wanders through her 20s
learning a trade and raising her sister. One day a mysterious ˜Sugar
Daddy” appears in her place of work, and he’s interested in Liberty and
not for sex. Liberty is ultimately offered a job as this man’s personal
assistant and moves to his luxurious Texas mansion. Sparks fly when she
meets his son, Gabe. Mutual disdain slowly turns to red hot passion.
But just when Liberty thinks she is finally over Hardy and can move on
with Gabe, Hardy magically reappears, turning her whole world
upside-down. She must make a choice: her old flame or her new beau.
Which man truly loves her and which man does she truly love?
I have been a fan of Lisa Kleypas, reading several of her historical
fiction romance novels. I have always loved the way she packs her
novels full of witty comments and I was not disappointed with Sugar
Daddy in the least. I wholeheartedly agree with the critics, Lisa
Kleypas made a seamless transition from historical romance to
contemporary romance with Sugar Daddy. There were several parts of this
novel that made me want to cry and many more that were quite humorous!
This book was a page turner for me. I read several chapters a night and
couldn’t wait to hop in bed to pick Sugar Daddy up again. It was a
story that kept you interested and had characters that you liked.
Another added element was the mysterious connection between Liberty and
the Sugar Daddy. By the novel’s end, that mystery was solved
satisfactorily for this reader. Sugar Daddy was a heartwarming rags to
riches story with a twist and one that any romance fan is sure to love.
