Rome, 1822
In an era when there is no future for a woman alone, Kate Malone makes
her living read tarot cards to society's elite. She carefully tells
them what they want to hear while gladly taking their money so she can
survive another day. And she's not above acquiring what isn't hers,
such as the fantastic emerald.
But Kate's life changes the instant she takes the stone. Gian Urbano
wants the stone and is bound by honor to obtain it. It's magical, and
should be driving Kate insane, yet it's not. In fact, Kate finds that
since obtaining the stone she has powers she knew nothing about.
Together on a wild adventure, they must keep the stone safe and return
it where it belongs, while learning each others secrets and sharing a
passion neither expected.
Susan Squires has given us a treat in ONE WITH THE SHADOWS. Her
characters are strong and deep, unique and balanced. The story flies by
with adventure and mystery and her romance develops one sweet page at a
time. Two lonely, flawed people fighting circumstance to find the
ultimate love. A definite keeper.
