Nina Blackman was determined to make something of
her life. After going back to school, she finally landed a job as a
dental hygienist. Wouldn’t you know it, on the first day of the job she
was bit by some whacko that went wonkers on the funny gas. Fine, she’d
admit he was a handsome whack job, but still. Then Nina woke two days
later only to find out that she was a vampire! Furious, she’s determined
to hunt down Mr. Handsome and make him turn her back.
When a gorgeous woman turned up on his doorstep,
demanding entrance, Gregori Statleon opened the door with his most
charming smile, only to have her faint in his arms. When the problem was
revealed, he promised to help her adjust to her new life. That was the
last thing Nina wanted, and she let him know in no uncertain terms.
Gregori didn’t know how someone in such a beautiful package could be the
biggest harpy on the planet.
While Nina scrambled from one wild goose chase to
another searching for a cure, Gregori tried to teach her how to survive,
until she pushed him too far. Ashamed of her behavior, Nina sought out
Gregori to make amends and was shocked to learn a secret that will
destroy them both. If she can’t rescue him, he’d disappear from her life
forever.
I got a kick out of Greg and Nina, both as unique
characters, their humorous turn of phrases and snarky comments.
Unfortunately, the plot revolved around her being turned into a vampire,
the hero’s story only emerging in the last few chapters. The first half
of the book felt dragged out, while the second half rushed. One part of
the book that bothered me was her friends. In one breath, they helped
research her new way of life and possible cures, then slammed her for
being foolish, telling her to grow up and accept her fate. Overall, the
book gave me a laugh, but didn’t really capture my attention.
