Art curator and
heiress, Magda Deacon, finds herself drawn to a painting until she
touches it and gets pulled back in time to 17th century Scotland. She
lands on the subject of the painting, James Graham the First Marquis of
Montrose, and they decide they will search for her way home together.
But the Scottish Highlands are in a state of war and James is compelled
to fight to protect the Highlands he loves. The only thing Magda knows
about this time is from a little blurb with the painting that James gets
captured and hung for crimes against the king. As she comes to care for
him, she cannot convince him not to lead men into battle for what he
believes nor can she find her back to present time.
I just couldn't get drawn into this book. To me, the author spent too
much time on the details and not enough time having the characters
interact. It seems the author did see a painting of James Graham and
decided he needed his story told with a twist. But in trying to
accurately portray his real life events, the story loses the romance
angle.
