Dulcinea (Cin)
Craven’s parents have just died in an accident. Her mother was a witch
and Cin has inherited her powers as well as having her own. She is not
safe as Sebastian, once a suitor stalks her. He has also become a
vampire. Cin calls upon the Righteous, a trio of warrior vampires to
aid her. They kill the evil undead, those who take human lives.
We watch Cin evolve from an innocent young girl to a mature woman. This
process takes time and readers will fall in love with her as she
undergoes her change. She is a joy to watch as she falls in love and
when she realizes her true powers. The author gives us a strong heroine
who has moments of vulnerability which gives her a human quality. Her
relationship with the Righteous is complex. It is her decision to make
whether to trust them or not because so much depends upon it. The
Righteous add and enhance all aspects of the story especially injecting
humor to situations. Michael, a member of this group, is a great
counterpart to Cin. He is a hunky hero who readers will just
adore. The chemistry between Cin and Michael grows as their
relationship deepens.
Wages of Sin is a spectacular beginning for this new series. The story
is fascinating and this first book sets the world in which Cin exists.
The author deftly incorporates paranormal aspects into her romance book
and it works for this reader. It doesn’t feel out of place to have
witches and vampires living in regency England. I look forward to the
further adventures of Cin and her friends.
