A man puts a
little girl in a cellar. A cat weeps by the cellar door until the
family finds her. Everyone wonders how she got there.
Marylee Carlson had missed out on so much. Growing up, she craved
having a family. Her parents died when she was younger and she was
raised by her aunt, Rose Carlson. Rose would never say much about
Marylee’s parents, or their death, but Marylee is fairly certain they
died in a car accident. Marylee has only one picture to remember them
by one her aunt gave her.
Rose had been rather paranoid when Marylee lived with her, always
worried about strangers and safety, but Marylee had learned a lot from
her. Rose had taught her much about crafting, quilting and living.
After her aunt’s death, Marylee returns to the place her aunt never
wanted her to return to. Once there, she buys a craft shop and begins
teaching classes.
Marylee quickly makes friends, but soon odd things begin to happen. Her
locks are tampered with. The car horn sounds in the night. A man seems
to be watching her. The only picture that Marylee has of her parents
turns out to be cut from a magazine.
Marylee soon realizes that danger stalks her. She doesn’t know who to
trust. She’s desperate for answers. She must unravel the mystery that
surrounds her before it is too late.
Linda Hall has crafted a wonderfully suspenseful story in SHADOWS IN THE
MIRROR. Halls characters are very real, her storyline is interesting
and fast-paced, and the moral thread that runs throughout the story is
refreshing. SHADOWS IN THE MIRROR is a highly recommended read.
