With her city
overran by evil creatures from the underworld, Hannah Wentworth and her
fellow D’Anu witches retreated to the Otherworld. They needed to find a
way to defeat the demon Ceithlenn and her army before the whole city
became a battle zone. The only solution was to plead aide from the
intractable Dark Elves, the ones who helped release the demon in the
first place.
Garran was a dark
elf and the Drow King. Though he regretted his part in releasing
Ceithlenn, it was no reason to join the war against the demons. His job
as King was to look out for the welfare of his people. But when the
beautiful Hannah challenged and tempted him, he decided to think matters
over. The Guardian sweetened the deal with a promise of something he’d
always wanted for his people. Garran finally surrendered and made a
pact- he would help the humans … if Hannah stayed with him as an
advisor.
The request both
shocked and pleased her. The instant she laid eyes on Garran, the
attraction between them made her soul ach. But the more she learned
about him and his world, the more she was convinced he placed a spell on
her. How could she want a man who lived so differently than her? The
thought infuriated Garran and left him with only one choice: he needed
to show the Hannah that he didn’t need any spell for her to want him.
But when the battle raged closer and forces from both worlds worked
against them, they have little time to for each other until it’s almost
too late.
The great
descriptions and powerful emotions pulled me immediately in the story.
The action adventure and smooth fight scenes are both entertaining and
really kept the pace jumping. This is book four in the Magic series and
has a lot of threads going at the same time, so the story is not as
focused as it could be with such a large cast of characters. This does
not detract from the story at all, but gives it a little more oomph.
Garran and Hannah’s journey left me satisfied, and the ending segued
nicely to the next and last book due out in November.
