Wayne Grusza is a
thirty-one-year old Gulf War veteran who is proficient in both Special
Ops and accounting. After years of living on the road, trying to
annihilate painful memories, he is offered a job he’s not sure he wants.
And his resume has holes in it that he can’t explain. However, a
community of retirees is desperate and hires him to investigate a scam
which has left them in danger of losing their homes. He partners with
two of the retirees, Foster and Jerry, an ex-cop. He is successful in
his assignment, but discovers another scam that may be related. The
story line includes ex spouses, rich bad guys, one rich nice guy, and
perhaps even a heavenly messenger. Tatyana Kuchik, a rich, beautiful,
and frosty lawyer, both attracts and intimidates him.
The author’s characters are unique and believable. His portrayals of a
young Hispanic boy, Julio, and Victoria, an elderly woman of great
faith, especially intrigued me. Bunn’s descriptions of Florida
landscape, architecture, and atmosphere are precise and accurate. His
wide travels and knowledge of finance provide Davis Bunn with
exceptional material for his fiction and his literary expertise puts
poetry on the page.
