The story is about
Maddie and Paul who are best friends. Maddie discovers she is stricken
by a terrible disease that will take her sight. She starts to hide her
disability for fear her over bearing mother will find out. When Maddie
was growing up her brother got the same sight loosing disease. Maddie
was past the age where the doctors thought she would get it. Maddie
fears her mom will cease letting her live life just like she did with
her brother. The book tells realistically of her fears and her undying
faith in God.
Paul learns a lot
about himself and what makes true friendship and love. Paul is just
starting to see Maddie has potential as more than a best friend when the
tragedy of her impending blindness strikes. Paul’s character grows
through out the book and you only learn to love him more.
After reading the
book I would say that this is a truly enlightening experience to walk
through Maddie and Paul’s life and how they both conquer their fears in
their own ways. You honestly think you know what will happen in the end
but BIG Surprise!!!!
This is an
excellent book, though a bit difficult because the story is told by two
different people and it goes back and forth between the two of them. It
also goes back in forth in time and sometimes I had to reread to find
out exactly where I was but it was well worth it in the end.
I will definitely
read all this author has to write. I finished this book in three days
and I'm somewhat of a slow reader.
