Futuristic Romance

Executive Officer, Colonel Medoro Keegan loved the corp. But two things destroyed the joy he took from his life: the loss of his wife to friendly fire and a second tragedy that cost him his ability to fly. While war ravaged the solar system, many fled, abandoning their ships. As ordered, Keegan stopped whenever such a vessel crossed their path. Though a menial task for a war ship, Keegan obediently followed orders and brought the cryo’s aboard.

The last thing Caitlin Driskoll remembered was her hospital room. The next thing she knew, she was aboard a space ship, centuries in the future. The first person she saw was Colonel Keegan. While attractive, his strict military background dampened any romantic feelings for him. Though mourning the loss of her old life, Caitlin soon learned through hard lessons that cryos were second class citizen.

His cool temper and her fiery emotions collided at every opportunity. For a chance at a future, they must overcome their past and each other’s prejudices. But circumstances came between them. Confused by their emotions, they bowed to convention and headed in opposite directions. By happenstance, their lives crossed again and passion struck fast and harder then ever. When orders for deployment arrived for Caitlin, Keegan knew they wouldn’t survive another separation. He must now face the decision that could change his future and cost him his career.

Clare Dargin managed to make the complicated military life of her characters come alive and gave me a peak into their world. I really liked how Keegan was the one who slowly thawed throughout the whole story, the way his character and his emotions woke when Caitlin burst into his life. But while the plot was unique and entertaining, the story didn’t flow as well as I would have liked. Parts seemed to ramble a bit too much to enjoy it the way I hoped. Everything evened out in the end and left me satisfied with the overall story.
