The vampire world
is about to be annihilated and army major Ursula Carlson has to choose –
follow her next in command’s orders and participate, or warn her friends
and become a traitor to the only family she knows.
As the
just-removed leader of an elite team of vampires working with the
military she has a bond with the vampire’s, and with Solomon more than a
bond – there’s an attraction there that doesn’t make sense to an orphan
with self-esteem issues. So she’s on the run to save them and save
herself. But they’re outnumbered and despite the vampire’s strengths
and talents, the army is closing in fast.
Ursula is a great
character. She’s strong, smart and motivated, and as usual the authors
support her character with a back story that gives her wonderful depth.
Solomon is a bit harder to get a feel for despite a really good back
story told in flashbacks but he’s an obvious leader and compliments
Ursula’s strength. I’d like to see him challenge her a bit more, but
it’s a full book in a relatively short format. It’s definitely Ursula’s
story.
As usual, J.M.
Jeffries writing sucked me in on page one and kept me there through the
end. I can always count on them to offer strong, intelligent
characters, dynamic plots and a fast pace, which is why I’ve been
enjoying their work for so many years.
