Caitlyn Coryell is
engaged to be married to a man who just had an affair, in his office,
with another woman. And Caitlyn walked in on them. It’s telling about
Caitlyn that she didn’t call off the wedding immediately. Oh she’s mad,
but she first calls her brother, one of three, who apparently never
liked her fiancé anyway.
It isn’t until
Caitlyn is alone and getting ready for an engagement dinner that she
finally decides that she’s done with Richard. And right about then, her
world changes. The most incredible man suddenly appears in her bedroom,
asking her to go to the past and marry him – just a marriage of
convenience of course, but still. It’s only temporary, and is for a
just cause, so Caitlyn decides, crazy or not, she’s going.
And her adventure
begins. Caitlyn is soon to become the wife of Scottish highlander
Connor MacKiernan, in name only, 700 years before she’s born. It could
happen, if none of the people determined to stop the wedding kill her
first.
This is Melissa
Mayhue’s first novel, and I enjoyed it immensely. The Legend of the
Faerie Glen confused me a bit at first but once I thought it through,
the story all fell into place. I loved the characters – Caitlyn needed
a good shaking in the beginning, staying with Richard, but deep down she
had her backbone. Connor has his own issues to deal with, and it takes
a dangerous finale to make him realize just what he’s about to lose.
But he’s a wonderful character.
So I can honestly
say I’ll watch for Melissa’s next work, and hope that it too is a time
travel romance.
