| Sarah Stromeyer's THE SLEEPING BEAUTY PROPOSAL starts
off like many chic lit books, with our heroine coming across as the out
of touch, not-like-my-perfect-mother character, but soon moves into the
sweet comedy romance the cover promises.
Genie Michaels has been with her boyfriend Hugh for 4 years, living a
routine life that doesn't seem to be advancing. They don't talk
about it, but Genie assumes that the relationship will end in marriage.
She's in for a surprise, when Hugh proposes on national tv -- to someone
else.
This is the catalyst for Genie's new life. She suddenly is a
woman dumped at the -- almost -- alter. But her friend Patty
convinces her to dump the burden of honesty on Hugh and the two start a
whirlwind game of engagement. They soon come to realize that the
world opens many doors for an engaged woman, and while Genie feels
guilty about the deception, she's powerless to stop the game.
Genie is a loveable misfit who doesn't see anything wrong with her
life until the entire world points it out to her. Suddenly pushed to
make decisions, take risks and move forward, she's out of her element.
But as she soon comes to see, change is good.
THE SLEEPING BEAUTY PROPOSAL is a delight. I laughed with Genie
and truly enjoyed our time together. The story is a romance, a
testament to friends and a really good way to spend your reading time.
