After her father died, there weren’t many options open to Nerina Morinelo. Most women would have married and settled into family life. Nerina would love to be one of those women, but unfortunately, her heritage left her little choice. For who would marry the daughter of Italy’s most famous courtesan?
Dressed in her mother’s old gowns, Nerina set out to follow in her mother’s footsteps. She had the looks, the intelligence and a musical talent to turn heads. The only thing she lacked was the nerve to take the final step in her downfall.
Domenico Venieri knew there was something different about the new girl as soon as he saw her. When she slapped one of Italy’s most renowned and ruthless merchants, he knew he had to meet her. She intrigued him. After learning about her circumstances, he made a bargain. Help him bait a trap and he would make sure she had enough money to survive. But when their feelings become tangled, will vengeance bring them together or tear them apart?
Good descriptions really made the unique setting come alive. The sexual tension between the characters was realistic and enjoyable to read. Domenico and Nerina seemed very suited to each other. Unfortunately, there were some clichés and flowery phrases that pulled me out of the story. Although the story was entertaining, the plot wasn’t as unique as I had hoped.
