Ian Hunter was a mercenary. He hadn’t planned on living that type of life, but it had been necessitated by treachery and betrayal. He was finally going to be able to leave that behind him with one last offer. Ian would receive the coin he needed to pay the tax collectors for his land in France if he were to marry Sorcha MacIver, bed her, and live to the next morning. Then he could be on his way to France.
They thought her a witch. Twice she had been married, only to have her husband die before they bed. Wanting to protect her newest groom, Sorcha tried to keep Ian from wanting to marry her, but to no avail. They would wed.
Ian and Sorcha must overcome many obstacles put in their path. There are royal plots, enemies close at hand, and the threat that someone may accuse Sorcha of witchcraft. Yet it is through these adversities that the two grow closer together.
THE SPELLBOUND BRIDE is a fascinating read for anyone who enjoys this time and setting. The author weaves in pieces of court, political treason, and even witch burnings. Although it was an interesting read, there weren’t many happy moments for Ian and Sorcha. In fact, they seemed to have one calamity after another. This is not a book for simple escapism.
