Cryptozoologist, Laurel Jensen, has been called to a small town, Pelican Bluff, to discover if a new species truly exists. Though she has tenure in Biology at her university, Laurel insisted on taking this new assignment. Though farfetched, she believed the high school kids actually saw … something. Why? Because she saw it, too.
As a forest ranger, Cade Morrison made it his job to know what’s happening in his forest at all times. So when kids reported a strange sighting, all it meant to him was more work. It would attract a few fanatics and those nosey ‘bug hunter’ type scientists who all will, inevitably, get lost in his woods. But when Laurel Jensen showed up on his doorstep, he changed his mind. Not only was she incredibly intelligent, she was gorgeous to boot. He wouldn’t mind spending a few nights out in the woods with her for company. If she got spooked, he would be there to comfort her.
Laurel was tougher than Cade gave her credit. To both their surprise, they did find something suspicion in the forest. As they work together, they learned that not all fairytales were make-believe. But when Laurel’s dreams become a little too real, Cade must risk his life to protect hers. For, there just might be more to the story then either of them believed.
The characters are fully developed and both are likable people. The book starts off as a bit predictable, but the plot twists really give it a new life and kept my interest. The interaction and sexual tension between Cade and Laurel make the sex scenes very intense. Unfortunately, the ending felt rushed and a bit glossed over. It left me with a few questions. The overall story has enough potential and plot twists to make it a memorable read.
