On the run from her abusive ex-husband whose physical and mental abuse destroyed her career and almost her life, Cassie Gambol has taken charge. With her name changed, she’s moved to Petal, Georgia to start over.
Unfortunately, the first thing that happens to her is that she’s rear-ended by the local fender-bender queen and she’s thrust into the eyes of the small town community and the sheriff, sexy Shane Chase. Although she’s attracted to him, the last thing she needs is another big, overbearing man in her life…right?
Shane knows there’s something off about the town’s newest member Cassie Gambol. However he can’t deny his attraction to the beautiful, yet skittish woman. He wants to protect and cherish the woman who’s obviously seen abuse, something the “love ‘em and leave ‘em” Chase brother never thought would happen.
Can these two drop their defenses long enough to see that they may just be perfect for each other before Cassie’s ex tracks her down and tries to destroy the new life she’s built for herself?
Lauren Dane once again tells the tale of a wonderful Chase brother in Taking Chase. When he discovered his fiancée in bed with his best friend, Shane became a little gunshy. He knows he has difficulty with trust issues and that he might not be the best man for Cassie but he soon realizes that he wants to be. Taking things slowly, he curbs his domineering tendencies (somewhat!) and courts her and tries to get her to open up about her past. Cassie obviously has many issues about her past. Although she was such a strong woman, she fell into a trap with her abusive husband and has to forgive herself before she can truly have a future with Shane. These two stumble through their pain and the issues from their past with a little help from friends and family to discover a wonderful relationship. Thank you Ms. Dane for showcasing an issue that affects many in a positive, yet realistic manner.
